Feast for Maryland Unions, Famine for Students

In a huge surprise to not a single person on the planet, Maryland taxpayers and parents learned that teachers union cash grabs and student success enjoy an inverse relationship.

“Cash grab” isn’t even hyperbolic. Look at these numbers:

“In 2013, MSEA reported revenues of $19.8 million. By 2022, revenues had grown 34 percent to $26.5 million, the highest amount on record. Just last year, in 2022, revenues increased by nearly $2 million.”

Surely, financially empowering these servants of education translated into higher student achievement? Not by a long shot.

“According to federal test scores, in 2013, Maryland students outperformed the national average in fourth-grade reading and math. In reading, Maryland was tied for the highest score in the nation at 232. But by 2022, the state had fallen below the national average in both categories. Fourth-grade reading dropped 20 points. Maryland went from the best in the nation to below average.”

Look at your state. What have the teachers unions really done to help students?

If teachers unions existed to support and supercharge public education (they don’t), their abysmal track record would be enough to have every honest person demanding their exit stage left.

These unions exist to soak up money and buy political influence. That’s it. They wield the money and influence behind a radical social agenda that is completely removed from what is best for students.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Sign the Reform Education Petition today
