Institute for Educational Reform Supports Rep. Bob Good’s NEA Charter Repeal Act

United States of America – Institute for Educational Reform urges Members of Congress to cosponsor Rep. Bob Good’s bill to repeal the Federal charter of the National Education Association (NEA). The bill was introduced by Bob Good (R-VA) on July 13, 2023 and is a bold action to strip corruption and malign politic influence from our nation’s education system.

In 1906, Congress declared its desire to “promote the cause of education in the United States” and “advance the interests of the profession of teaching” and today, Rep. Bob Good reaffirms that desire. Government teacher unions, like the NEA, pretend to fight for all teachers. Instead, they rob teachers of their pay so they can overwhelmingly support one political party over another. As the bill states, “…from September 2019 to August 2021 the NEA spent over $116.7 million on political activities and lobbying, and in the 2020 election cycle, 95.7 percent of candidate campaign contributions by the NEA went to Democrat candidates.”

In 2019, NEA members voted against the “pursuit of increased student learning in every public school in America by putting a renewed emphasis on quality education” and against putting student learning at the forefront.

Matt Buckham, the Executive Director for Institute for Educational Reform, issued the following statement of support for Rep. Bob Good’s bill:

“The Institute for Educational Reform recognizes Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) as a champion for kids, families, and teachers with his bill to repeal the NEA charter, sending a message that the country supports teachers, parents, and kids, not scandalous organizations looking out only for themselves and their political cronies. Government teacher unions steal the paychecks from hard working teachers, horde political power to benefit their own gain by resisting educational options for parents, want to keep sexually explicit books in school libraries, and advocate for teaching destructive gender ideology in our classrooms. The federal charter, meant to advance educational outcomes for parents and kids, has been twisted by the NEA to manipulate the political system for themselves. We endorse Rep. Good’s bill to advance our kids interests ahead of the radical NEA.”

Government unions only exist to accumulate money and power. When it’s between them and our kids, they will manipulate the political system against kids, parents, and teachers every time.

IER Dedicates Efforts to Ending the Attacks by Government Teacher Unions against Teachers, Parents and Families

Government unions should not exist. Public service should focus on serving the public good and those that enter it should be in the business of serving. Government jobs were never meant to hold the public – its families, children, and society hostage.

At Institute for Education Reform, we dedicate our efforts to once again put every child, parent, and American first in the mission of public service and not let them be forgotten. Americans should get an accountable and manageable government workforce, not one that teaches kids how to hate themselves while bankrupting our government to ensure they are never fired for bad work.

Our President, Matt Buckham, recently handled personnel for President Donald Trump where he oversaw cabinet level departments, including Department of Labor, and other independent agencies. In this role, Matt pushed to place leaders throughout government and coordinate the recapture of Executive Branch agencies that were under career and opposition control. Matt was one of the first staffers for the House Freedom Caucus, helping them navigate their first year as a group. Matt has served on Capitol Hill for over 11 years in various 501c3, government, and Executive Branch roles. He is a follower of Jesus Christ called to bring freedom to the captives.

The institute strives for the outright banning of all public sector employee collective bargaining and thus the ensuing collection of compulsory dues that warp the fabric of government by shutting out taxpayers from decision-making.
